Salsa Congress Information

What is a Salsa Congress?

Salsa congresses are large conventions that occur all over the world typically involving an invited variety of well known dancers, performers, instructors and DJ’s from around the world. Congresses are usually at a hotel function hall or some other ballroom-type facility, and last between three to four days. During the daytime there are workshops and seminars as well as vendors who feature dance videos, clothing, shoes, etc. At night there are performances, often live bands, and dance social all night long. The energy that develops when there are so many great dancers in one place is one of the best aspects of congresses. It is an opportune way for people of all ages, generations and cultures to network, have a great time, and learn and share their passion for Latin / Afro-Caribbean music and dance.

The mission of the St. Louis Salsa Congress is to unite cultures and generations together through the arts of Latin – Afro-Caribbean music and dance while changing the lives of people in need.


When is the St. Louis Salsa Congress Held?

October 1-3, 2010 (Friday through Sunday)


What is the age limit to attend the St. Louis Salsa Congress?

There is no age limit. Everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.


Do I have to be Latin or know how to dance in order to come?

No. The congress staff encourages everyone to come and learn the rich Latin – Afro Caribbean Culture. This event is for the novice to professional.

Hotel Information

Where is the St. Louis Salsa Congress Held?

The 1st Annual St. Louis Salsa Congress will be held at the Millennium Hotel in downtown St. Louis.


Am I able to book a room at the Millennium?

Yes, we recommend that you book your hotel at the Millennium. Visit the lodging tab on the website, then click on Salsa Congress to book online. You may also call the Millennium Hotel at . Don’t forget to mention the St.Louis Salsa Congress so that you get the discount rate.


Do I have to stay at the Millennium?

No, you don’t have to stay at the Millennium but all the action is taking place there. With the every day dancing and excitement from 9am to 4am (the next morning), it’s highly recommended and very convenient for you.

Pass Information

Where can I buy a Full Pass VIP Package to the St. Louis Salsa Congress.

You can buy passes online by clicking on the Registration page.


When is a good time to buy my Full Pass?

Now is the best time to buy your pass. The longer you wait the more expensive it gets.


What does the Full Pass consist of?

The full congress pass gives you access to all the activities that go on all weekend long. They include, workshops, vendors, performances, Social dancing, band performance at night and the Missouri Salsa Open.


Will my pass be mailed to me?

Salsa Congress passes will not be mailed to you but when you show your proper ID a wristband will be given to you at the Online Registrant Booth when you arrive on the days of the event at the Millennium Hotel and will be your pass for the whole weekend.


Do I have to keep my wristband on all weekend?

Your wristband must be worn at all times during the congress weekend. If your wristband breaks then you will have to buy a new one.

Workshops

I don’t have a partner, will I still be able to participate?

Yes, in the workshops you will rotate partners so everyone gets a chance to dance and meet new people.


Will I be able to videotape during the workshops?

No There is no videotaping during the time in which the instructor is teaching. At the end of the workshop the instructor may allow you the opportunity to videotape.


What should I wear?

It is important to dress as comfortable as possible. Workshops can become pretty intense.


How do I know what workshop I should take?

Yes, You will be able to choose from a variety of workshops that will be offered. Each workshop will have the level listed so that you will be able to choose what works best for you.


Am I able to pay for individual workshops? Do I need to stay for the entire workshop once it is in progress?

No. You can only buy a day of workshops with the option to choose the ones you want to take that day.


Is there limited space for workshop attendance?

Yes. When we reach a number of Full Pass VIP Packages we will close cancel because we do not want the workshops being over filled. Buy your pass now and early so you don’t get locked out.

Performances

What time does each performance start?

How early do I need to get there for the evening performances?

The evening performances begin promptly at 8:00pm so we suggest that you get there around 7:00 – 7:30pm as general seating is first come first serve. This will also give yourself additional time if you have not purchased tickets for the show in advance.


Can I videotape the performances?

No there is absolutely no videotaping allowed during the afternoon and evening shows. If anyone is caught video taping they will be ask to turn off their camera by security.


Is there a dress code?

No, there is no dress code enforce however we want to wear attire that is not over expose and during the evening we suggest you BRING IT!! with your flyest gear because it is time to show off all your new moves.
