The St. Louis Salsa Congress proudly introduces our July Spotlight dancer, Abel Pena! At the age of 18, Abel realized that Salsa was his passion and true nature of expression. Abel would establish himself in the Los Angeles, California through his unique style of patterns and his strong lead in his dancing and performances.

His dedication and determination would help him win numerous titles in competitions and consolidate his style in LA and in the Salsa World. More importantly, it was his same passion and determination that would help Abel recover from a tragic accident in 2003 and lead him to becoming the ESPN World Salsa Champion for three consecutive years.

Abel has toured globally both as a Salsa performer and instructor. His travels have included trips to Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Abel continues his dedication by coaching the future competitors and performers of Salsa Dancing and promoting LA Style On 1 worldwide.

The St. Louis Salsa Congress introduces our next Spotlight dancer, Leah Patterson! Leah has taught and performed in over 6 different countries and is internationally recognized for her smooth and sensual styling and dynamic stage presence. She has also choreographed and performed with many amazing dancers across the United States and is a principal dancer of the well known dance company Descarga Caribe. Her style of dance has often been described as sophisticated, sharp, precise, imaginative, and even spiritual.

The St. Louis Salsa Congress is proud to introduce our next Spotlight performer and instructor, Anya Katsevman! Anya has traveled the globe both as a Salsa Dancer performer and instructor. She has won numerous Salsa Competition Championships both nationally and internationally and is a two time World Salsa Champion with her partner Luis Aguilar. Anya participated in the First Annual St. Louis Salsa Congress as a dance instructor and performer. The St. Louis Salsa Congress is proud to announce that Anya will be returning to participate in this year’s congress!

decaDance will be the official photographer of the St. Louis International Salsa Congress for a second year! decaDance Photography’s unique blend of action photography, fashion, beauty, glamour and art photography stands out among the dance world. It’s “Where dance meets fashion and art…”

Photographer Tony Eng of decaDance Photography has more then 15 years of art direction and dances photography experience providing captivating imagery for professional and amateur dancers alike. Tony is a competitive ballroom and latin dancer and utilizes his experience to capture the feeling, spirit and emotion between the dancers. He brings tremendous knowledge and a creative style to dance photography.

He has photographed over 100 major dance sport competitions in the US and attended many salsa congresses as well. His work includes photographing the dancers on “Dancing with the Stars,” as well as recent tours of this show and “So You Think You Can Dance.” decaDance Photography is the official photographer and a proud supporter of the 1st Annual St. Louis Salsa Congress. Almos Del Ritmo is offering new dance classes starting April. Lessons will include Salsa partner work and Partner work with Styling for men and women for all levels along with Bachata.

Classes will focus on improving technique while advancing in turn patterns, footwork, and styling.
